Kaawad is a popular folk art story telling device, coming from the word Kanwar. It is constructed like a wooden temple, comprising a series of wooden panels with paintings, that are unfolded to tell stories from Hindu mythology and religious tradition. The narration of the story is done by Kaawadia Bhats, the traditional singers of the Kaawad.
They also used the Kaawads to narrate family histories of important persons of their society. |
